It is only a matter of time before we dump our kayaks and lose a lot of expensive fishing tackle and gear. the shoreline brand 8 inch rod float advertises it will float a decent sized spinning. I like the idea of the rod float, but i baitcast (quite a bit), and the least amount of weight i can have (even saving ounces), the better for me. i went to a much lighter rod for this reason and have noticed a big difference..
